Born in 1993, Yuki Hatano (@patapatapatano) lives and works in Seto, Aichi Prefecture - one of Japan's historic ceramic hearts. His practice is a contemporary exploration of the earth itself. He begins his process by digging the soil with his own hands, listening to the clay to uncover its unique character and latent traits. Using the transformative processes of ceramics, such as melting and sintering as his guide, Hatano attempts to reconstruct our connection to the land and the vast, deep memories embedded within the earth. His objects emerge not merely as functional vessels, but as fragments of an earth archive, reinterpreting the way we inhabit and relate to the land.
The tea bowls featured in Vessel mark a pivotal transition in Hatano's practice, moving from the creation of functional ware towards a more sculptural exploration. Utilising the specific soil of Seto which is rich in silica - a primary component of glass - he has channelled the kiln's heat to produce ethereal, ice-like hues within the interior of each bowl. In contrast, the exteriors possess a raw, lithic presence, appearing as if they were carved from marble or raw stone.
These pieces encapsulate his craftsmanship as a ceramist and the primal vision of a sculptor.

1993年生まれ。日本の歴史ある陶磁器の産地、愛知県瀬戸市を拠点に活動。彼の制作は大地そのものをめぐる現代的な探究である。波多野は自らの手で土を掘り起こすことからプロセスを始め、土の声に耳を傾けることで、その土が持つ独自の性格や潜在的な特質を見出していく。
「溶融」や「焼結」といった陶芸の変容プロセスを指針に、彼は人間と土地との関係性、そして大地に刻まれた膨大で深い記憶を再構築しようと試みている。生み出される作品は、単なる実用的な器（Vessel）に留まらない。それらは「大地のアーカイブ」の断片として現れ、私たちがどのように土地に根ざし、関わっているのかを再解釈させる。
本展『Vessel』に展示される茶碗は、波多野の制作における重要な転換点を示している。
それは、機能的な器の制作から、より彫刻的な表現への深化である。ガラスの主成分であるシリカを豊富に含んだ瀬戸固有の土を用い、窯の熱を操ることで、器の内側には氷のような、幽玄で神秘的な色調が生まれている。対照的に、外側はまるで大理石や天然石から削り出されたかのような、原始的で岩石のような力強い存在感を放っている。これらの作品には、陶芸家としての熟練した職人技と、彫刻家としての根本的なビジョンが凝縮されている。
